Michigan Technological University's Distinguished Ecologist Lecture Series 2015: Dr. Jerry F. Franklin

The Ecosystem Science Center of the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science at Michigan Technological University, the Applied Sciences Program at Seney National Wildlife Refuge (USFWS), Northern Research Station (USFS), and the Lake States Fire Science Consortium hosted Dr. Jerry Franklin, Professor of Ecosystem Analysis at the College of Forest Resources, University of Washington, as part of Michigan Tech’s Distinguished Ecologist Lecture Series (DELS). Dr. Franklin’s visit provided an opportunity for students, faculty and local land managers to interact with a leading expert in forest ecosystem science and management. Dr. Franklin is an accomplished scientist in the field of forest ecology, and has been a driving force behind the concepts and practices of Ecological Forestry. He is an expert in the structure and function of old-growth forests and forest stand dynamics, and has worked on issues such as global change, spotted owl management in the Pacific Northwest, variable retention harvesting, and forest landscape management.
